Behind the wheel I feel sure that what I am going to say about my driving is going to prompt response from other people who can advise me and, maybe draw on their own experience. At the moment, I feel that the way I drive resembles any other competent driver on the road today. I know that one day this will change. This makes me even more vigilant. When making manoeuvring decisions, I feel entirely competent, as a driver. I have recently discovered that I can (confidentially) have a driving assessment at a local disabled living centre. By the time you are reading this, I should have taken a driving assessment. One of the key problems we have on our roads, in this country, is that their are too many drivers who think they should point out when the driver in front of them makes a mistake. They think that a blast from their horn has the effect of slapping you on the wrist so that you don't do it again. Drivers need to understand, that they are better drivers if they can react to other peoples mistakes without collision or angry reaction. |
You hear people joke about how they become a different person, behind the wheel. Cars now, are so powerful and can accelerate at speeds that people feel they are well within their rights to use every time they drive. Public and supermarket car parks are prime examples. Some drivers drive in a way, knowing that they are not going to be caught speeding by someone pushing shopping trolleys. What they don't realize is the number of hazards that exist. Again, I say, People should drive in a way, and at a speed, that they can react to other peoples mistakes without anger or collision.
The last item I want to say about the way people drive is that people drive, not realizing that they may cause a disabled or elderly person, to give up driving. That person will rely on their car for their independence. Without there car the rest of their life will change dramatically. |
