Above, is an image that can be very upsetting. It upsets me to accept that this is, almost certainly for me,  going to be the future.

One way of looking at the wheelchair scenario  ; that is to say, when one decides to start using a wheelchair, that occurs to me is that wheelchairs were first invented to give safety, mobility and, later, independence to the user.

If one refuses to ever use a wheelchair despite feeling unsafe, immobile and depending on others to help them move around, one is not making the best use off their lifetime. That's just my view. Just because you transport yourself in a wheelchair should not shorten the time you can say" I am still able to walk". Many of us with Ataxia are still able to walk. There comes a time when we need to accept that it would be much safer in a chair. It does not mean that you have given up. Anyone could and should exercise, whether they use a wheelchair or not.

I certainly do not want to offend anyone. I suppose I am trying to recognize the difficullty someone might have, in deciding whether to use a wheelchair or not.

Having a computer and access to the internet can be a brilliant communication tool. Email and chat rooms are now a part of modern life that people with any disability should make use of. Ten years ago we would not be able to make use of such technology.

I hope to make use of computers for the foreseeable future but in the back of my mind I also accept that writing a letter may become a slower process, one day but by this time adaptations for the disabled will be that much better.
