Going on holiday and having Ataxia is in need of some planning. In my experience, holidays abroad before the onset of noticeable symptoms, need not be too much of a challenge. Allocation on arrival holidays are possible. However, once symptoms require some type of walking aid, holidays should be chosen from a brochure. You may disagree but I believe that you need to know the lie of the land. Its no good going to a hotel without a lift and a huge great staircase. I cannot make recommendations as to where to holiday. All I can do is say is plan it and do your research as best you can. Minorca worked for me and my partner 2 years running. |
![]() Last year, in Minorca, I made a decision. In future we really need some help to enjoy our holiday. In future we will either ask a friend or family member to be there with us on holiday. The holiday reps and airport staff were very helpful but I would rather have the offer of help before I do something rather than after when I have failed to achieve what I was trying to do and hurt myself in the process. This year we are going to Cyprus. Its a family holiday so we should have all the help we need. I hope to have more photos to show you, later in the year. You know what I really enjoy about holidays abroad? The food. The fish, the salads the waiter service, all in a warmer environment. Having Ataxia makes it seem much more important to go on holiday as often as possible in order to enjoy the things you have today. Its important to enjoy the mobility and abilities you have now. |
